A1 Lisboa - Porto
A2 Lisboa - Albufeira
A3 Porto - Valenca (E)
A4 Porto - Vila Real
A5 Lisboa - Cascais
A6 Marateca (A2) - Elvas (E)
A7 Povoa de Varzim (kust) - Guimaraes
A8 Lisboa - Leiria (A1)
A9 Randweg Lisboa
A10 Lisboa - Vila Franca de Xira (A1)
A11 Esposende - Braga (A1)
A12 Lisboa - Setubal
A13 Marateca (A2) - Santarem
A14 Figueira da Foz - Coimbra (A1)
A15 Obidos (A8) - Santarem (A1)
A22 Lagos - Ayamonte (E)

IC = Itinerário Complementar

In Portugal we have different designations for the roads. First we have the IP's and IC's. IP means main road(connects all the district capitals and important towns) and the IC's, complementary roads that connect cities with less importance. These two types of roads can be applied to highways and national roads. But, the highways have also another designation that starts by an A plus the number of the highway. For example, the A2 that connects Lisbon to Algarve is also the IP1 because connects two important regions. The pictures that I put are from the IP2 which is a national road with some improvements because connects several district capitals in the interior of the country so was designated IP2. Finally, the IC1, when the A2 didn't exist was the IP1. But, when the A2 was built he was renamed to IC1 because now the main road from Lisbon to Algarve is A2-IP1(Highway number 2 and main road number 1).

Here are the pictures of my journey from Portugal and Spain. They were taken ith a mobile phone, but I hope they are nevertheless okay.

Very interesting, thanks!
I have some pictures from 2001 and the colours seem to have changed. N numbers used to be white on red and green is apparently new (though there were already some green patches on white signs in 2001).
Luckily consistency has improved somewhat.
Some questions:
Are IP road signs generally white on green? What about motorway-like IC roads?
I had never seen M numbers on signs! Are they normally black on white like N numbers (as on Bild 294/295) or black on yellow (Bild 359/360)?
The new A numbers are now on signs (e.g. Bild 275), have the old IC and IP numbers disappeared here?
I have already updated my colours page:
http://www.geocities.com/marcelmonterie/EUcolors.htm
I will do the Portugal page soon.
NB You can reply to me in German.

All these IP's have green signs with white letters. The Name of the IP is always in red, like it is shown at my pictures
IC roads have just white signs with black letters like the national roads (N). Sometimes a national road is also a IC-Road, like the N1-IC2 between Porto and Coimbra.
Unfortunately I can't tell you anything about the M-Roads because I have seen them this year for the first time either.
Generelly a lot of new motorways has been build in Portugal during the last years and a lot of streets have been upgraded to a motorway. Your example the picture of the A44 is a motorway right next to Porto. Another very important street was the IP 5, which leaded from the Spanish frontier (Vila Formosa) until the beach of Costa Nova right next to Aveiro. This street is almost everywhere finished as a motorway and is now named A25.
The IP numbers have disappeared on the motorways I know. One exeption is the IP 1 which is part of the second ring of Porto. This street is so far still named IP 1.
I you have further questions or need more information just ask me. I hope I could help you with my information.

P.S. I have replied in english, because it is probably easier for some members of this forum.
The bridge carries six road lanes, with a speed limit of 120 km/h, the same as motorways, except on one section which is limited to 100 km/h. On windy, rainy and foggy days, the speed limit is reduced to 90 km/h. The number of road lanes will be enlarged to eight when traffic reaches a daily average of 52,000.
